The
maximum carbon content that is allowed is highest in grade C which will end up
resulting in higher mechanical properties due to that increased carbon content.
With having higher mechanical properties, an engineer will be more interested
in grade C when he or she is considering selecting pipe or materials for higher
temperature services. Grade C has a carbon percentage that ranges around 0.35%.
This shows why grade C is the strongest of the three and is used when dealing
with the stronger projects. ASTM a106 Grade C is used in the toughest
applications when transporting these gases and fluids from gas refineries,
power plants, and on shipping vessels.
